 2005-2006 Accomplishments
 

MVNA’s Mission Statement – from our Bylaws

  • organized for educational, social and charitable purposes; to maintain, protect and enhance the livability and sense of community of the neighborhood
  • to provide an open process by which all members may involve themselves in the affairs of the neighborhood
  • to facilitate the exchange of information within the neighborhood, other neighborhoods and agencies
  • to maintain an open line of communication and liaison to the City of Bend management and staff
  • approved by Bend ’s City Council in February, 2003

  General Accomplishments

  • Current membership is 290+ members
  • Participated in community-wide Clean-Up Day; worked on MVHS and 27th
  • Members worked on Weed Pull in June; cleaned up St. Charles Medical Center property
  • 1st Homeowner Association (HOA) Forum held – 150+ attendees; information/resources identified
  • Maintain website at http://www.bendneighorhoods.org/   Click: Neighborhood Websites, click: Mountain View
  • Meeting Minutes, Member Updates are posted on website; member application also available online

  Traffic & Safety Issues

·          MVNA attends City’s Traffic Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC) monthly

·          Speed orders established for Purcell and Eagle; 4-way stop at Neff & Hamby

·          Board reviewed Empire Extension project with City staff

·          MVNA Chair met with Bend Mayor on Freight Route strategy

·          MVNA Chair member of Working Group – citizen/business input on US 97/20 Refinement Plan

·          Intersection of Neff & Purcell top rated for Arterial & Collector project improvement

·          Signal to be located at Conners & 27th

·          Turn lane striping to be done on Wells Acres at 27th

·          Create and train member team to identify problem areas

 

Land Use – Development

·          MVNA created a database of Land Use applications for our geography

·          Monitoring of developer meetings with residents and MVNA Board

·          29 applications received since 5/1/06

·          Met with developers on major impact projects

·          NA Chairs working with Community Development staff on streamlining the notification process

·          Bend ’s Infrastructure First advocate presented initiative information to MVNA Board

·          Code Enforcement – important issue in Member Survey; business card with contact information     

 

 
Membership Recruiting

·          MVNA Chair interviewed on KPOV in May

·          Recruited NA members at Les Schwab events, Fall Festival

·          MVNA Chair spoke at Summit-MVHS football game half-time in October

·          Best recruiting method – neighbor to neighbor – brochures available
   

 

Communications, Budget

·          MVNA Chair reported on NA issues to Bend Council July 5

·          Met with MVHS Principal regarding litter clean up on campus

·          Hope to create Spring newsletter with business sponsors providing funding

  •    fiscal year funding returns to $1.02 per tax lot
  •    City going to 2-year budget cycle; asking for $1.25 per tax lot

 

MVNA Challenges

·          Grow membership, particularly with area business owners

·          Continue to monitor and influence development projects

·          Continue to monitor and influence Freight movement on 27th

·          Continue to develop partnerships with other NAs, community groups

·          Continue to identify issues and concerns of MVNA members
