Jeanne explained the participation MVNA has had in Traffic Safety Advisory Committee meetings and indicated that she would like to organize a group of members to conduct a Traffic Safety Audit of MVNA territory. If enough members are interested, Jeanne will ask the City to provide some training for the team with the intent to identify problem areas and potential solutions.
V. Presentation – Avoiding Identity Theft, Neighborhood Watch
Jeanne introduced Steve Esselstyn who is Community Liaison, City of Bend Police.
Steve distributed some handouts to the group that listed ways to reduce the risk of identify theft; he indicated that ID theft is the fastest growing crime across the country. He encouraged members to contact the three major credit bureaus to obtain free credit reports and to closely check the information for accuracy.
Steve next moved on to the topic of Neighborhood Watches – he reviewed crime statistics for our MVNA territory and indicated that they are fairly modest in number. He encourages any group wanting to start a Neighborhood Watch to contact him at 322-2976 and he will provide
training. He also reviewed a handout called the “Five Ws” which defines the kind of information a resident needs to give the Police in order to help deter crime and apprehend criminals.
