Bend's Drake Park
History - Bend's Neighborhood Associations
During several retreats in 1999-2000, the City Council identified the goals of improved communication and more public involvement and participation. Neighborhood associations were discussed and identified as a way to help meet these goals.
The City applied for a Technical Assistance grant from the state Department of Land Conservation and Development to help fund the implementation of the neighborhood association program.
The Bend City Council ratified the development of neighborhood associations on July 19, 2001 and established the Office of Neighborhood Associations (ONA). The purpose of the office is to serve as a bridge of "communication and education" between the City of Bend and recognized Neighborhood Associations.
Today, the ONA falls under the City's Communications Division.
